SERIES 1 - COLD WAR

Our Series 1 tags were chosen due to their relevancy to the Cold War. Included in Series 1 are tags cut from Surplus HMMWV Half Metal doors, an LGM-30 Signal Data Converter Unit, and a 1987 Trabant 601 "OPIE" Hood.

The HMMWV was first used in Panama in 1989 during Operation Just Cause to overthrow Manuel Noriega, who began to shift his allegiance towards the Soviet bloc. We chose these Half Metal Doors due to woodland camp paint scheme, which was used on the HMMWVs during Operation Just Cause.

The Trabant 601 was the most numerous car in East Germany prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. "OPIE" was used by the 159th Fighter Squadron as a flight line vehicle while they were based at Laage.

The LGM-30 ICBM was developed at the height of the Cold War and saw its greatest deployment during this time period. The LGM-30 flies at Mach 23, 700 miles above the Earth enroute to its target.
